Despite fan negativity, Pressley intends to use life experiences to get Dark Blues moving up

- By Andy Newport

STEVEN PRESSLEY admits Dundee picked the wrong man if they were looking for a proven winner.

But the new manager believes he can earn his stripes at Dens Park.

The former Rangers, Dundee United, Hearts and Celtic defender was Dark Blues chief executive John Nelms’ controversial choice to replace Tony Docherty.

The appointment has gone down like a lead balloon with the Dee faithful and Pressley admits he doesn’t have the CV to change their minds.

The former Falkirk boss - who was sacked by Coventry and Carlisle United hasn’t held a top dugout position since 2019.

But Pressley said: “Like all management it very much depends on what lens you're looking through.

“If you’re a Dundee supporter looking for a manager with a history of producing titles and winning honours then I’m not your man.

“I've not demonstrated that yet. I hope I can demonstrate that moving forward, but my career to date doesn’t suggest that.

“But certainly from a development perspective and creating a style of play and the way a team performs I have demonstrated that over the course.

“I would like to think the four or five years I’ve had out of football, not just the education within Brentford as a club, I have been working on a uni degree, all of those in the mix I hope brings a different type of leadership than before.

“Hopefully with that type of leadership we can bring success.”

Pressley cut short a holiday in Vietnam with wife June to land his new post.

But despite jetting in to a storm of fan negativity, he’s excited to be back in a city where he played 100 games for Dundee United.
