Dad wins right to dig up daughter’s remains

A FATHER has won a bid to disinter the remains of his daughter who took her own life after discovering boys had taken and shared inappropriate images of her.
He had instructed his lawyers to go to the Sheriff Appeal Court in Edinburgh after failing in a previous legal challenge.
The company chairman, who has not been identified, wants to take his child’s remains from the capital and re-inter her at a plot in Monaco.
Emigrated
The girl, who has only been identified under the alias Emma, committed suicide when she was 16 in January 2002.
Yesterday, a judgment on the application to the Sheriff Appeal Court was published.
Written by Sheriff Principal Aisha Anwar KC, it stated: “In late 2001, at a house party, a group of teenage boys took and shared compromising photographs of Emma.
“In the aftermath, Emma tragically committed suicide on January 7, 2002.”
The judgment told of how her father, named only as Mr G, and her family had tended her grave in Mortonhall Cemetery, Edinburgh, with “love and care” but emigrated to Monaco in January 2019.
