Consumer confidence boost in early sign 'worst is over'

CONSUMER confidence and belief in the economy are finally on the up, a financial guide has revealed.
The Consumer Confidence Index, run by market research firm GfK, increased by three points to -20 in May after dropping in "awful April" due to inflation fears.
Experts are now hoping "the worst has passed" after a torrid time for the economy.
Easing trade tensions and a cut in interest rates are thought to be behind the increased optimism.
Neil Bellamy, consumer insight director at GfK, said: "The measure for personal finances looking ahead for the next 12 months has moved out of negative territory.
