Confusion grows in Spain over killings

THE confusion over differing police accounts of what lies behind the murder of two Scots in a Spanish bar has deepened further.

Authorities in Spain, where Ross Monaghan and Eddie Lyons Jr were gunned down almost three weeks ago, claimed earlier this week that the person responsible was a leading member of a notorious rival gang faction.

The victims were both at the top of the tree in the Lyons crime family who for two decades have been at war with the Daniel clan.

On the face of it, a connection between the murders on the evening of Saturday, May 31, in Fuengirola and the feud seemed

the most plausible explanation.

Added to that, there is a separate, ongoing gang war that has erupted across Scotland in the past few months, which has prompted an investigation codenamed Operation Portaledge. So far it has led to almost 50 arrests.

Any potential link to either dispute was denied by Police Scotland within 72 hours of the murders.

They stated there was “no intelligence” to connect the killings with any ongoing criminality in Scotland.
