Children among 34 dead in Russia's Palm Sunday attack
Scottish Daily Express
|April 14, 2025
AT least 34 people were killed, including two children, after a Russian missile strike on the Ukrainian city of Sumy yesterday.
Officials claimed two ballistic missiles struck the heart of the city, including a bus, at around 10.30am just as locals were gathering to celebrate Palm Sunday.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said dozens had been killed in the deadliest attack of the year, which sparked global condemnation. Another 117 people were injured in the strike, including children.
Ceasefire
The attack on Sumy was one of the deadliest so far this year and comes a little over a month after a limited ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.
The north-eastern city has come under intense attack from Moscow in recent weeks. Yesterday's strike comes just days after US envoy Steve Witkoff flew to St Petersburg to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin as hopes of a potential new ceasefire rose.
President Zelensky said: "It is very important for everyone in the world not to remain silent, not to remain indifferent. Russian strikes deserve only condemnation.
