Checks cut eye risk for diabetics

DIABETICS who do not keep tight control of their blood sugars are three times as likely to develop eye disease, research suggests.

It highlights the importance of regular eye checkups, experts say.

The findings came after scientists looked at the health of over 5,600 people in England, with an average age of 66, across 14 years.

Those with uncontrolled diabetes were found to have a 31% risk of developing diabetic eye disease.
