LIFE IN KYIV

Keep going...woman at Kyiv water firm; back-up generator at chemist's; explosion as Russian drones blitz power station in Ternivka
DAYLIGHT saving time may take on a new meaning in Ukraine as Vladimir Putin continues to direct air attacks on its power and heating plants to try to break public morale.
Last week the capital and several regions were hit by blackouts, leaving homes and firms in the dark as the weather turns cold.
At a cavernous central Kyiv metro station travellers took the escalator down into darkness in the afternoon — and afternoons are about to get darker here sooner when the country turns back its clocks on Sunday.
But Kyivans fear the clocks going back even further — to the winter of 2022-2023 when entire districts froze in the dark as Russian missiles pummelled the city’s power generation sites and transformers.

A CABINET minister has been forced to apologise for the Government’s botched handling of the national grooming gangs inquiry.
