BILATERAL or Trilateral? We have heard a great deal about both recently, but what accounts for the absence of quadrilateral, pentagonal and all the rest? When it comes to the serious business of stopping a war we surely ought to rule out nothing that might bring an answer. Accordingly, I have been wondering what is the ideal number of entities to find a solution to such a problem.

It could be argued that we can rule out pentagonal as that may run the high risk of bringing the Pentagon into the discussion which some would say has a reputation for starting and carrying out wars rather than stopping them, but quadrilateral has a great deal to be said for it. The quadrilateral might well be a rectangle which has four right angles which could be vital to finding the right angle for looking at things.
