A new set of moral standards

A MORAL person must have a strong sense of purpose. Goodness defined in passive terms to mind one's own business and not to harm anyone - is not adequate. One needs to become consciously and actively engaged in performing actions that promote both individual and social transformation.

We can define moral persons as social actors who, having effected change in themselves, also feel a responsibility to contribute towards the transformation of the social order.

Such responsibility, however, must be towards our entire human family and not just towards our own race, ethnic group or religion.

Bahá'u'lláh, the founder of the Bahá'í Faith, states: "Let your vision be world-embracing, rather than confined to your own self" and "That one indeed is a man who, today, dedicateth himself to the service of the entire human race.... Blessed and happy is he that ariseth to promote the best interests of the peoples and kindreds of the earth".

Bahá'u'lláh further states that: "the purpose for which mortal men have, from utter nothingness, stepped into the realm of being, is that they may work for the betterment of the world and live together in concord and harmony".
