Struggling Wids hit rock bottom

FIFTH successive league defeat at the hands of a useful Timperley side has left Widnes firmly rooted to the bottom of the table, uncertain as to when their first win of the season will come.

With key bowlers unable to take wickets on a regular basis and contain the opponents’ run rate, greater pressure is placed on the batters to deliver the volume of runs needed.

Widnes skipper Alex Hewitt must hope that matters improve quickly, otherwise a difficult summer lies ahead.

The match began with Widnes winning the toss and electing to bat first, on a wicket that was two paced.

Openers Aaron Soni and Rohan Luthra made a steady start before Soni departed, LBW to Fowler for 16.

This brought to the wicket the in-form Luke McCoy, who immediately stamped his authority on the match.

With a willing partner in Luthra, who played some nice drives, the Widnes score advanced at a healthy rate at above five per over.
