Twigg one of 48 Labour MPs to oppose bill

- BY MARK SMITH

WIDNES MP Derek Twigg joined 48 fellow Labour Party rebels to vote against controversial Government welfare reforms, branding the plans 'flawed.

Last week proved a tumultuous one for Keir Starmer's Government as efforts to push through a controversial welfare bill met with fierce resistance from many on its own benches.

Concerns had been raised over many aspects of the bill, especially surrounding Personal Independence Payments (PIP), which would tighten up the rules about who qualified and which critics claimed would leave many in poverty.
