£1.7m funding scheme to upgrade swimming pool
Rossendale Free Press
|June 06, 2025
A £1.7MILLION funding plan to upgrade the only council-owned swimming pool in Rossendale could be formally approved.
Rossendale councillors were due to attend a special meeting on Wednesday to rubber-stamp cash for upgrades at Marl Pits Leisure Centre.
The work would see the Rawtenstall pool's old gas-powered boiler system replaced with new air pumps, better insulation and solar energy panels with the majority of the cash coming from government funding.
Councillors were expected to be asked to officially accept £1.38m from the national Public Sector De-carbonisation Fund and agree a further £300,000 from Rossendale Council.
The improvement work must be completed by March 2027 under the conditions of the deal.
