Town store among dozens to be shut
Rochdale Observer
|June 28, 2025
RIVER Island has revealed the locations of a number of stores earmarked for closure by January 2026 and it includes its Rochdale store.
The news comes after the high street fashion retailer confirmed last week it would be shutting 33 of its underperforming stores.
While bosses did not initially reveal which of the 230 stores would be closing, the retailer has since confirmed the full list. Hundreds of jobs have been reported to be at risk as the fashion chain, which currently employs around 5,500 people, considers store closure plans.
Alongside these plans River Island also plans to reduce rents at another 71 of its stores to ensure they are able to remain open.
