Cautious welcome from FSB

A CONSULTATION exercise that should ultimately help Greater Manchester councils including Rochdale better manage the provision of taxi operations across the city region has been welcomed by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB).

Metro Mayor Andy Burnham met with the taxi trade on Thursday where operators and business organisations were briefed on new proposals aimed primarily at winning powers from central government allowing the Combined Authority powers to only allow taxis registered in GM to ply for trade here.
The mayor also announced plans to extend the time frame across all GM council areas in which hackney carriage operators - black cabs - will be forced to upgrade to newer vehicles. Those who don't, or can't afford to, will lose their operating licence.
