A Legacy of Integrity in Public Service

An ideal parliamentarian embodies a set of enduring qualities-dedication to public welfare, unwavering integrity, and a sincere commitment to advancing the common good. Such principles have defined the distinguished career of Virendra Sharma, former Member of Parliament for Ealing Southall, whose life in public service is a testament to democratic values and social justice.

Virendra Sharma represented Ealing Southall in the UK Parliament from 2007 to 2024, following more than 25 years as a local councilor in Ealing. His exceptional career spanning over five decades has been marked by a steadfast commitment to equity, inclusion, and giving voice to marginalized communities.

Born in India, Sharma relocated to Hanwell, West London in 1968 from Mandhali, Nawanshahr (now Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar) in the Punjab Province of British India. He began his career as a bus conductor-an experience that rooted him deeply in the realities of working-class Britain. Inspired by his father, Dr. Lekh Raj Sharma, a prominent political figure in Punjab, he pursued further education at the London School of Economics on a Trade Union scholarship, seamlessly blending grassroots experience with academic understanding.
