Mkhwanazi's bombshell: how the police minister betrayed SA
Post
|July 16, 2025
IT WAS a day that felt like a scene out of a gripping crime thriller. Cameras rolled as KZN Police Commissioner General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi called an urgent press conference - no carefully staged backdrop, no political handlers whispering in his ear. Just raw, unfiltered truth from a man who had reached his limit.
-
In that explosive moment, Mkhwanazi exposed a betrayal so deep it cut through the last threads of public trust.
He accused Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and senior police leaders of interfering with investigations into political assassinations, shutting down task teams, and protecting dangerous criminal networks, including drug syndicates.
He revealed that critical dockets were hidden, suspects were shielded, and investigations were deliberately sabotaged.
It was a shocking confession of how far the rot in our police service had spread.
This was not opposition spin or anonymous leaks - it was a senior police commander risking his career and safety to speak directly to the people.
It was a desperate attempt to alert a nation that the walls protecting citizens have been turned inward, trapping us instead of keeping danger out.
Yet, in response, Cyril Ramaphosa delivered a damp squib. Instead of immediate arrests or suspensions, he offered the same tired promise: another commission. No action, no consequences.
