TO MILLIONS of people throughout the world, Deepavali commemorates the return of Prince Rama, Lady Sita and Lakshmana to Ayodhya in India, after 14 years of exile in the forest, while others celebrate the defeat of the demonic King Narakasura by Shri Krishna.
Whatever the reason, this festival has a universal appeal. It signifies the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance and truth over illusion. Every year in Leicester in the United Kingdom, tens of thousands of people gather in the streets to enjoy the vibrant shows of light, music and dancing.
