Just six months after Senzo Mchunu, the Minister of Police, articulated a vision for restoring public confidence in law enforcement during a National Police Day commemoration in Durban, he has been placed on a leave of absence following explosive allegations about corruption within the police force.
On the heels of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s decision to place him on leave, an unsettling narrative has begun to unfold. This decisive move comes in the wake of troubling claims made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
He has alleged the existence of a criminal syndicate operating within law enforcement and intelligence services, positioning this revelation as a critical threat to the integrity of the SAPS.
