Locks Heath avoided a potential Portsmouth Senior Cup banana skin tie.
Second in the Hampshire Premier League Senior Division, Locks were drawn away to a Paulsgrove side propping up the HPL's second tier.
But a Nathan Rogers brace and an 89th minute strike from sub Adam Clark sealed a 3-1 victory on the 3G surface at King George V, Cosham.
That was the first of the eight second round ties to be played in the tournament.
Elsewhere, holders Portchester host HPL second tier Hayling United and Moneyfields, last season's beaten finalists, made the very short trip to Baffins Milton Rovers.
