School given UN award for respecting pupil rights

A Perth primary school has received United Nations’ recognition for work on children’s rights.

Riverside Primary has been given a silver UNICEF (the United Nations agency for children) award for progress in embedding children’s rights in the school’s policy, practice and ethos.

The award followed a recent assessment by a UNICEF adviser.

Riverside Primary School headteacher Annabelle Burns said: "Placing children’s rights at the heart of a school is so important. I’m therefore extremely proud of the pupils, staff, and families for helping Riverside Primary School to achieve silver.

"Achieving silver is not a given and the school community pulled together and put in the hard work to secure this recognition.

"Every day we can see the positive impact of these Awards on pupils and the school."

Riverside Primary School pupil Zuzanna Mazur said: "I am proud that Riverside has been recognised for its hard work towards achieving our silver award.
