Treasured memories as tributes paid to charismatic salesman, footballer and family man

- LES STEWART

Treasured memories of well-known Perth businessman and former footballer David Ross were recalled at his funeral.

Dave, who died peacefully at home on October 17, aged 76, played for Scone Thistle Juveniles — and then Kinnoull Juniors — winning an armful of trophies.

And during his many decades 'on the road,' he became the first man in Europe to rack up £1 million in sales with a clutch of companies, including confectioners Cravens of York and an Italian optical concern who sold designer spectacles.

The Rev. Marc Bircham, who conducted the funeral service at Perth Crematorium last Wednesday, acknowledged that David had "the gift of the gab," literally covering millions of miles during his working career which spanned more than half a century.

He added: "David was immaculate when it came to timekeeping and had a very, very fine reputation of being honest, efficient and businesslike. He was professional in every aspect of his work."

The minister of St Madoes and Kinfauns Parish Church added: "David was a wonderful father, grandfather and husband to Lorraine and, if they were to sum him up, the words they would use would be: 'charismatic, generous, handsome, kind, hardworking, trustworthy, funny and mischievous.'!

"Although he's been unwell over the past number of years, he had an incredible, incredible mental attitude.

"And even during some of the most difficult times, he would always retain that wonderful sense of humour. He was a good friend and great neighbour.

"But, above all, these folk were those whom he loved the bestand the feelings were reciprocal. They were very proud of a man who was an example to all a true gentleman, a hard working professional and a loving father, husband papa and brother.

"He was the 'go to' fixer. He was irreplaceable - and will never be forgotten. We are all grateful to have been part of his life's journey."
