We must never give up hope... and never forget

Hiroshima was the first military target of a nuclear weapon in history. It was dropped by American forces on the Japanese city on August 6, 1945 during World War II.

Approximately 140,000 people were killed in the bombing. This includes those who died instantly from the blast and those who died later from injuries and radiation sickness.

On Wednesday, members of the Renfrewshire Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND), politicians and members of Paisley 4 Palestine gathered to remember those who lost their lives, while also vowing to do all they can to ensure nuclear weapons are never used again.

Alex Cathcart, of Paisley 4 Palestine, and George Adam MSP were both invited to speak at the event, held at the Peace Garden in Barshaw Park.

Both men said remembering the devastation caused in Hiroshima is more important than ever given the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and Gaza.
