Stop the abuse, it's time to show shop workers a bit of respect

Politicians, business leaders and police officers came together in Paisley this week at a summit aimed at tackling the abuse of shop workers.
Hosted by Neil Bibby MSP, the summit aimed to give shop workers a platform to highlight the abuse and harassment they face on a daily basis while also developing plans to address the problem in the longer term.
It comes after the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers (USDAW), which represents retail workers, says that customer abuse towards shopworkers is becoming an increasingly common occurrence across Scotland and the UK.
The union explained how many workers who fall victim to abuse are women and young people, and the difficulty of dealing with shoplifters has been highlighted as a particular problem.
