Scotland a net energy exporter

It's getting once again to the time of year when we are combatting the weather - the storms, gales and rain that we experience in this great land of ours.

Scotland a net energy exporter

Keeping the lights on Scotland exports energy, driven by renewable generation, to the rest of the UK via the National Grid

We had the pleasure of Storm Bram last week across Scotland - and the aftereffects of its disruption.

This is when we take notice of the energy we use to heat our homes in winter; something that we are more aware of with the rolling out of smart meters detailing our electricity and gas use on a daily basis.

Something that is not always welcome which, if you think about it, is rather odd for a country that is extremely energy-rich.

In fact, did you know that Scotland is a net exporter of energy? Well, probably not as it is little reported for some reason.

Scotland exported 19.7 terawatt hours (TWh) of energy to the rest of the UK after supplying all of its own energy.
