Public support for creation of garden on historic site

Renfrewshire Council hopes to deliver a public space at the site where the B-listed Brown Institute once stood in Renfrew next year, it has confirmed.

The proposals aim to recognise the heritage of the former building in Canal Street by creating a facility - including pathways, seating and a mix of native trees, shrubs and seasonal plants - that would reuse architectural features from the landmark.
The local authority canvassed opinion on the idea in June and asked for feedback on the designs from people who live, work or study in the town or surrounding areas.
In a statement on its website, the council said: “We received a wide range of valuable input through our in-person event at the town hall, the online survey, and the comment boxes available at the library and town hall.
