WE REVISIT DEREK PARKER’S RAMBLES THROUGH RENFREWSHIRE

Older Buddies will remember life in the town’s tenements.

Built during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, these sturdy structures lined entire streets in the town centre and east, south, west and north ends.

Tenements housed people who worked in the mills, factories, foundries, chemical works, breweries, shipyards and starchworks which made Paisley famous across the world.

For those of us who experienced tenement life, a walk along Caledonia Street, Underwood Road, Neilston Road, Broomlands Street, Seedhill Road and other areas evokes many memories.
