Decision is a fare deal for all

It's always good to get some good news, especially when it benefits the money in our pockets these days.

You don't often get that with what has happened in the economy - the Truss crash and the targeting of our older people and those with disabilities at Westminster.

Last week saw the abolishing of peak rail fares in Scotland. What does that actually mean?

Well, the myriad of different costs for rail journeys costing different amounts depending on the time of day, or some other combination of rules, makes fare prices pretty complex to navigate.

Basically, we now have the same price for the same journey no matter the time of day or what cusp of the astronomical calendar we find ourselves in.

Say you work in Glasgow. The old cost for a ticket from Paisley would be £7.50. It is now £5.10, saving £2.40. If you were then travelling to Edinburgh from Glasgow, that would cost £32.60.

It is now £16.80 which is a saving of £15.80.
