At a time when many families and businesses across Renfrewshire are feeling the strain of the cost of living, the SNP Scottish Government's 2026-27 budget is firmly focused on people’s priorities.

Budget focus on people's priorities

These are supporting households, backing local businesses and investing in the public services we all rely on. For families, it delivers meaningful action.

The Scottish Child Payment will rise again with inflation, and increased to £40 for babies under one, helping to give children the best possible start in life.

This bold step has been widely welcomed by organisations such as Save the Children and UNICEF, who recognise just how critical the early years are to a child’s life chances.

Alongside this, universal breakfast clubs will be rolled out in every primary and additional support needs school, ensuring children start the school day nourished and ready to learn, while also helping parents manage childcare and work commitments.

We will continue to offer a generous package of funded early learning for three and four-year-olds, as well as eligible two-year-olds, and will go further still by expanding wraparound childcare.
