Stephen Robinson yesterday insisted Brendan Rodgers' decision to quit Celtic is a blow for Scottish football.

- TAYLOR MURRAY

The Hoops announced Rodgers had tendered his resignation after falling eight points behind Premiership leaders Hearts, who St Mirren face this evening.

The late-night revelation sent shockwaves through the game with Martin O'Neill and Shaun Maloney taking temporary charge of the reigning champions.

Buddies boss Robbo believes a coach like fellow Northern Irishman Rodgers was an asset to Scottish football - with managers getting a glimpse into how he worked on several occasions.

He said: "Look, I don't know the ins and outs of Celtic Football Club or what's happening with Brendan.

"But I think it's a big loss for Scottish football.
