Bill supports domestic abuse victims

A Conservative voice

Shortly after becoming an MSP in 2021, I decided there was one issue in which I wanted to make a difference more than anything else.
I had watched domestic abuse unfold throughout my community as a child and, like everyone else, was constantly appalled at story after story featuring victims usually women - being routinely attacked by current or former partners.
Domestic abuse is a horrendous crime affecting predominantly women.
Last year alone, almost 64,000 cases were recorded in Scotland.
On Monday, my efforts will reach an important stage.
My proposed new law surrounding domestic violence will close for consultation, and prepare for its journey through the Scottish Parliament's legislative process.
If backed by MSPs, my Prevention of Domestic Abuse (Scotland) Bill aims to finally turn the tide on what is fast-becoming Scotland's most notorious crime.
There are a number of measures, all of which have been developed in consultation with victims, experts and charities.
