7.5 per cent rise for council tax in Renfrewshire

Budget increase approved along with investment

Cash has been earmarked for play park and pitch upgrades in Renfrewshire - but council tax will rise by 7.5 per cent after the SNP administration's budget passed yesterday.

The party's overall £622.79 million spending plan was backed by independent councillors Andy Doig and Will Mylet, as well as Liberal Democrat councillor Anne Hannigan, at a meeting in Renfrewshire House.

The council tax change means the Band D charge - used as a general measure - will jump from £1,572.61 to 1,690.56 for 2026/27.

SNP finance convener John Shaw said: "This is a balanced budget that, because of prudent financial management, secures the council's financial future.
