FOR INDIA, THE WAR IN UKRAINE IS A REMINDER THAT IN THE GLOBAL LANDSCAPE, ONE CAN NO LONGER LIVE UNDER THE ILLUSION OF NEUTRALITY
-
The United States' President Donald Trump has accused India and China to be the primary funders of the ongoing war in Ukraine by continuing to purchase Russian oil at his UN General Assembly address. However, the accusation is inaccurate.
The war in Ukraine is an experience that reshapes the entire world, and not how the American President describes it. For Europe, it is a tragedy at its doorstep, which has shattered the belief in the stability of the international order.
For India, it is a reminder that in the global landscape, one can no longer live under the illusion of neutrality. Europe and India face a similar question today: how to defend principles in a world where force, rather than law, increasingly matters.
In Europe, especially in countries of the Eastern flank, the war in Ukraine is not an abstraction. In Poland, Ukrainian refugees are seen in schools, in lines to doctors, at railway stations and in work places.
