Spin maestro Ashwin announces shock retirement from IPL

THE ANNOUNCEMENT CAME AMID SPECULATIONS EARLIER THIS MONTH THAT WERE RIFE OVER ASHWIN'S FUTURE AT CSK AFTER AN UNDERWHELMING IPL 2025 SEASON, WHERE HE PLAYED ONLY NINE MATCHES -- HIS SECOND LOWEST IN A SEASON SINCE HE FEATURED IN JUST TWO GAMES IN HIS DEBUT IN 2009
Veteran India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin Wednesday announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League, bringing the curtains down ona 16-year-long association with the tourna: ment months after saying goodbye to international cricket.
Ashwin made the announcement through a social media post.
“They say every ending will have anew start, my time as an IPL cricketer comes to a close today, but my time as an explorer of the game around various leagues begins today,” Ashwin posted on X.
“Would like to thank all the franchisees for all the wonderful memories and relationships over the years and most importantly the IPL and the BCCI for what they have given me until now. Look forward to enjoying and making the most of what's ahead of me," he added.
