A new study by IIT Guwahati researchers reveals how digital platforms are reshaping food habits while reinforcing class and social divides in urban India

The rapid rise of social media platforms and food delivery applications is significantly altering food habits, consumption trends, and cultural practices across urban India, according to an interesting study by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati researchers Saturday.

The study, led by Assistant Professor in the department of Humanities and Social Sciences Rituparna Patgiri, explores how digital technologies are reshaping not just what people eat but how food is experienced, shared, and valued in the digital age. The findings were recently published in the Sociological Bulletin, a reputed journal from SAGE Publications.
