Rath Yatra: Addl 378 health professionals, 265 hosp beds

The state government has made elaborate arrangements, including setting up of 265 additional hospital beds and deployment of 378 more healthcare professionals in Puri, to ensure the safety and well-being of devotees visiting the Holy City during the Rath Yatra, official sources said, Monday.

Briefing media, Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Minister Mukesh Mahaling said arrangements are in place to handle medical emergencies during the world-famous festival, which draws lakhs of devotees each year.

He said the health infrastructure has been significantly strengthened with 265 additional hospital beds in the Pilgrim City this year.

“This enhanced capacity includes 100 additional beds at Government ANMTC and 15 ICU beds at TB&IDH in Puri. The district headquarters hospital (DHH) has reserved 68 beds - 50 general beds, eight burn ward beds and 10 ICU beds. Similarly, 200 units of blood have been reserved at the DHH blood bank and two minor operation theatres, along with specialised dressing rooms, have been established to handle any medical emergencies,” he said.
