New Act empowers universities: Min

The Odisha University (Amendment) Act, 2024 will empower universities with greater autonomy and streamline faculty recruitment, said Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj Tuesday.
Addressing the media after holding discussions with vice-chancellors of state universities at Utkal University here, Suraj said, “A university plays a pivotal role in shaping a student into a responsible citizen. Calling it the cradle of human development would not be an exaggeration.”
‘The emergence of ideas and humanistic thinking takes root in universities, he added.
The new Act, he said, is designed to eliminate delays in faculty appointments caused by legal disputes, ensure curriculum-based recruitment, and reintroduce the Senate in university administration.
