Jumbo tramples woman to death; hubby critical

A woman was trampled to death and her husband sustained grievous injuries in elephant attack at a cashew orchard under Telkoi forest range in Keonjhar forest division Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Labanya Palei, 45, and the injured as Jadu Palei of Udayagiri village under Telkoi police limits in Keonjhar district. The injured man has been admitted to Keonjhar district headquarters hospital after preliminary treatment at Telkoi community health centre (CHC).
The mishap sparked tension in the area as several residents gheraoed the forest range office holding the forest officials responsible for the incident.
