Developers seek ease in land conversion rules

Real estate developers have called for urgent reforms in the state’s land conversion framework, citing delays, regulatory complexities, and outdated processes that hinder urban growth.

Their demand comes in the wake of progressive changes introduced by Maharashtra and Karnataka, where land conversion procedures have been streamlined to align with modern urban planning requirements.

In a significant policy shift, both states have simplified land conversion norms by integrating them with building plan approvals. In Karnataka, the requirement for separate land conversion within Greater Bengaluru Area has been removed, allowing conversion to take place automatically during plan approval under the Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP). Maharashtra has adopted a similar approach, eliminating the need for separate Non-Agricultural (NA) permission, with approvals from town planning authorities now deemed sufficient.
