Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) supremo Naveen Patnaik's sudden visit to Nuapada district ahead of the crucial by-election has sparked sharp criticism from Congress, accusing BJD chief whip of "remembering the district only when votes are at stake.

Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhavan here, former PCC president Jayadev Jena launched a scathing attack on Patnaik and said, "The former Chief Minister had neglected Nuapada for 24 years and is now attempting to reconnect with voters merely for political gain."

"Naveen Babu had completely forgotten Nuapada for over two decades. Now, just before the election, he suddenly remembers the people of Nuapada," Jena said. "The magic of Naveen's hand wave no longer works — people have seen through the deceit of BJD," he stated.
