Anuparna Roy scripts history at Venice Film Fest

New Delhi, Sept 7: Filmmaker Anuparna Roy, who made her debut with ‘Songs of Forgotten Trees’, bagged the Best Director award at the Venice International Film Festival.

The 82nd Venice Film Festival concluded Saturday, with Indian filmmaker Anuparna Roy scripting history by winning the Best Director award in the Orizzonti section for her debut feature - ‘Songs of Forgotten Trees’. Roy became the first Indian director to receive this honour in the section, bringing international attention to Indian cinema
Presented by filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, the film premiered in the festival’s prestigious Orizzonti Competition section, an international competition for films that highlight new trends, with a focus on debut works, young talents, indie features, and lesser-known cinema, September 1.
Roy said the film is a tribute to all the women who are “si lenced, overlooked, or underestimated”.
