Woman beater's car chase caused £11,000 damage

A WOMAN beater led police on a dangerous high-speed chase which ended when he smashed head-on into a parked car and reversed into another one.

Nottingham Crown Court was told how heavily convicted roofer Brian Gafny caused more than £11,000 in damage after jumping a red light, crossing a busy dual carriageway without stopping and making a number of dangerous overtaking manoeuvres.

The 52-year-old father-of-four, with 25 previous court appearances for 82 offences, turned up at the home of his on-off girlfriend who he'd previously assaulted on more than one occasion, leaving her with a black eye.

Imposing a two-year community order, Judge Michael Auty KC said: "You are a difficult person to sentence because there are elements about you which are deeply unpleasant.

"She plainly doted on you and you may well have doted on her and when it was at its best it was good but when it was at its worst it was toxic.
