SUTTON-IN-ASHFIELD, despite its many charms, isn’t usually top of the list for visitors from a different continent.

London, York, Edinburgh, Bath and the Cotswolds, yes, but not many make it as far as this corner of our county.

But the area was the first place Lori and Richard Brierley stopped on their nationwide tour after travelling more than 4,000 miles from their home in Burlington, a city in North Dakota. The exact port of call was The Brierley Cafe, a cosy haunt in Brierley Forest Country Park, Huthwaite.

The reason? They share the same name.

Lori, a director of communications and IT for a district public health office, said the trip had been two years in the making after they discovered the cafe on Facebook.
