DAUGHTER OF MAN WHO WAS MURDERED IN HIS BED 35 YEARS AGO CALLS FOR PEOPLE TO COME FORWARD
THE daughter of a Nottinghamshire miner who was brutally murdered in his bed has appealed for the public’s help in her family’s “last shot” at finding his killer.
Kevin Childerley, 30, and his wife Denise, 32, were asleep at their home on Sherwood Street, Mansfield Woodhouse, when they were brutally attacked during the early hours of Monday, February 19, 1990.
The original investigation into the horrific axe assault, which killed Mr Childerley and left his severely-injured wife permanently disfigured, was unable to find the violent criminal responsible.
However, in June police announced that a 62-year-old woman had been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice in connection with the murder, raising hopes that justice could eventually be served.
Kevin’s daughter Emma, just five when he was killed, has called on more people to come forward with information on her dad’s murder.
“Tl never give up hope anyway, even if this new investigation doesn’t bring us justice - but I have hope," she said.
The 40-year-old funeral director, who named her business K C Funeral Service after her father’s initials, said she wanted to know “everything” about the police's investigation, but had to be kept in the dark so as to not prejudice the process.
