Spate of weekend break-ins sparks plea for witnesses

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a string of break-ins at properties in Newark - including one in which an elderly woman was assaulted after attempting to ward off a culprit.

Five properties were targeted by burglars over the weekend and police believe the incidents could be linked.
Windows were smashed to gain entry to each address, most of which are owned by vulnerable people.
An elderly woman was assaulted after disturbing a burglar in her Bowbridge Road home at about 2pm on Sunday. The intruder fled empty-handed.
Three of the break-ins occurred on the Saturday, the first of them a house in Hill Vue Gardens at about 1.40am. Nothing was taken after the elderly occupants confronted a suspect.
