CAR 'LIFTED OFF THE FLOOR' AND HIT GUILDHALL
A DRINK-driving university student's speeding car "lifted off the ground" before crashing into Nottingham Guildhall in the city centre.
Nottingham Magistrates' Court was told how a passerby then performed a citizen's arrest of Melvin Mugambe after realising the 20-year-old smelled of alcohol.
The University of Nottingham second year economics student was remarkably unhurt in the smash during which "someone could have been killed", magistrates said.
Now he is likely to lose his job at Trowell Services on the M1 as a result of his conviction and 16-month road ban.
Handing him a 12-month community order, with 200 hours unpaid work, the chair of the bench said: "We are very mindful of the fact you are a young and inexperienced driver and we hope you will be very mindful and never have to repeat this experience again when you get your licence back.
