Rogue 'roofers' tried to bully elderly couple into handing over £2,000

PENSIONERS LEFT SHAKEN BY ORDEAL, BUT WANT TO WARN OTHERS
TWO pensioners were left shaken after cold-calling “roofers” tried to coerce them into handing over £2,000.
Sandra Green, 80, eventually burst into tears after the men would not stop pestering her for more and more money.
Her ordeal has led to her wanting to raise awareness among other pensioners who are at risk of being scammed.
Sandra and her partner, who live in Watnall, heard a knock at the door on Thursday, May 29. It was a man claiming to be a roofer working on a nearby house.
Sandra's daughter, Olwen, said her mother had only told her about the incident on Tuesday, just before she went in for cancer surgery.
Olwen said the caller was accompanied by other men “with a general roofing logo on their T-shirts”. They were in their early 30s.
"They said she had a loose roof tile and that they could fix it,” said Olwen.
