HANDBAGS, children’s toys, chocolate, jewellery, soap - even doggy ice cream that owners can eat too! They've got it all at A Stone’s Throw.

Specialising in cards, gifts and treats, the Sherwood shop has come out top in the Post’s poll of best independent shops.

It will be 11 years on May Day that Rob and Pete Sampson opened the shop in Mansfield Road.

Originally, gifts were sold at the Crimson Tree across the road but when the cafe expanded, losing the gift side of the business, they stepped in and opened the shop.

The premises couldn’t have been closer - in fact just a stone’s throw away, hence the name. It meant they could continue using some of the bigger companies with their contacts, like East Of India, that are postcode protected.

Rob continued in his career as an accountant for the first five years while Pete ran the shop but later quit to work together.
