ROAD IMPROVEMENT PROPOSALS HAVE BEEN DUBBED ‘INADEQUATE’

- By OLIVER PRIDMORE AND GEORGE PALMER-SOADY

ROAD improvement plans for a huge development that could see 4,000 houses built around Nottinghamshire villages have been dubbed “inadequate”.

Concerns include the lack of a new pedestrian and cycle crossing over the A52 as part of the housing plans for land to the east of Gamston and to the north of Tollerton.

Rushcliffe Borough Council has insisted that highways improvements are yet to be finalised, but campaigners say they are “shocked” by issues with the current plans.

Rushcliffe Borough Council first allocated the land, which includes the Tollerton Airfield site, for 4,000 houses in its 2014 local plan.

The authority has more recently been preparing what is known as a supplementary planning document (SPD), setting out the detailed requirements for development on the site ahead of planning applications being considered.

Campaigners have now obtained a document in which Nottinghamshire County Council raises a string of concerns about the SPD, particularly around traffic issues.
