Rail station footbridge closure to be extended to weekends

THE controversial closure of a footbridge at Nottingham railway station is being extended to weekends.

Since August people have been unable to use the bridge, which connects Station Street to Queen's Road, between 7pm and 6am.
East Midlands Railway (EMR) is planning to extend the closure to cover the entire weekend from Friday, February 6, claiming it will improve safety and reduce fare-dodging.
The rail operator said there had been a 45 per cent reduction in assaults and abuse towards both staff and customers.
