QMC's 'miracle' stroke machine now operating round the clock

A SERVICE at the Queen's Medical Centre that can "significantly reduce disabled outcomes" for stroke patients is now available 24 hours a day.

Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) has made its Mechanical Thrombectomy service, which treats patients who have suffered severe strokes, available around the clock.

The emergency procedure restores blood flow to the brain, potentially saving lives and avoiding lifelong disabilities.

Paul Haywood, who suffered a serious stroke in September 2023, said he "probably wouldn't be here or be in a worse state" if it was not for the service. "My wife took one look at me and realised I wasn't there, basically. She fetched a nurse from across the road, who also said there was something wrong," said the 59-year-old from Coalville, Leicestershire.
